At the next commercial break, I went to speak with several VOTF members in the audience. I created new questions. The show’s producer waved her arms. She was motioning for me to talk to her. And she was furious, “What the hell are you doing? This is not a Voice of the Faithful show!” she screamed at me.

I retorted, “By whatever do you mean?”

“Every person that stands up introduces themselves as a member of VOTF—I want that to stop now!”

“Let me get this straight. First you ask me to fill this place with VOTF members and now you want me to tell them they can’t ask any questions? Am I getting that right?” I said.

“This is not a VOTF show! I want it to stop!”

“Okay, how about this,” I said to the producer. “I will go into the audience and tell them that the Phil Donahue show’s producer has a problem with them being members of VOTF. And I then I will ask them to get up and leave. And I would say that by looking at this audience, half of it will disappear. And those empty seats are going to look really funny when Phil comes back. Is that what you want?”
